The Fungi is a building exclusive to the Cymanti tribe that produces one population per level. It grows by one level per turn up to a maximum of level 3. Also, it poisons any non-Cymanti unit that steps on it, except flying units. The Fungi is unlocked by the Farming technology and can be built on any tile with spores. It replaces the Farm.

The unused forest
The old level 3 Fungi sprite
There is an unused forest design that looks very similar to the Fungi. It was likely created as a placeholder, but it may have been used to test the tribe that is now Polaris.[1]
Before update 2.0.58, the Fungi also imposed a movement barrier. It stopped any unit that traveled on it, like mountains do, even if a road was built on it.
Before update 2.2.9.8251, Fungi dealt a small amount of damage to units that walked on it.
When Cymanti was released, the sprites currently used for levels 2 and 3 were used for levels 1 and 2, and they had a different design for level 3.
